Correct CISCO command, unrecognized at Exam

Took my CCNP Route (300-101) exam today.

I almost panicked because on the labs that appeared on the exam, after configuring whatever was to be configured i could not save my configurations.

The command to save your configs is “copy running-config startup-config” entered in exec mode. Well that command was considered ‘unrecognized‘ at the exam surprisingly. Without an option, i decided to just move to next question.

It turns out CISCO should be doing the saving for us….. Because i passed my test. If you fail the labs, you definitely fail the exam. But since i didn’t fail i had to make this post so that future exam writers get aware about this issue.

My PROMOTE 2014 experience

Good Morning Dear readers,

screenshot

For those who don’t know promote, its a trade fair where SMEs and international companies showcase their services usually in the Congress Hall venue in Yaoundé. We call it PROMOTE. This year’s promote was simply amazing. I will dwell only on my experience and the things that caught my eyes (especially as an IT specialist) in any order;

  • As you move along, companies give you tracks/papers having promotions, articles display, company addresses etc.. You may find yourself with a bag of papers.
  • Its also a place for fun and some party especially as it falls in the X-mas season

screenshot

  • Internet wasn’t a problem at all because all the mobile operators and ISPs where present with free wireless everywhere. MTN and Orange had a table with smart devices connected to their respective wireless signals with the public having access for free (Orange particularly had a 15 minutes restriction, as time to browse free)

  • Making your way through from one place to another wasn’t easy especially by evenings…CONGESTION

  • Its crazy the traffic congestion that was present around the venue
Yaounde by night - PROMOTE 2014

Yaounde by night – PROMOTE 2014

  • Mtn wifi was spanning a greater perimeter coverage than Orange
  • It was easy to have a Calendar at MTN, i was refused a calendar at Orange stand
  • Orange confessed through a seminar that took place at PROMOTE 2014 that they’re ready to deploy 3G and 4G networks in Cameroon

  • I was fooled at PROMOTE2014 by a sermon that LED bulbs brighter than our florescent bulb and consumes less electricity….so i bought it  and the verdict: really consumes less but as for brightness, not always true. Let me be illustrative ;
    LED BULBS story

    LED BULBS story

i told them i have the bulb on the right which is very bright and also economical…and asked them to give me a LED bulb that is also as bright as mine and less economical as they say…they gave me that on the left.

VERDICT : its really not brighter, infact mine in whiter .

  • My best surprise at was the WII dance game at mtn stand, as well as the presence of a DRONE
  • Overall, it was a nice 2-weeks moment. Let me finish this experience with a photo illustrating the feasting that was going on at the entrance to promote 2014 🙂

Cameroon’s football in brazil reflects how the Country works

Good morning friends, almost all Cameroonians watched their football team mistreated in the 2014 Brazil world cup. To me, our dear country’s situation was just displayed world wide in the form of football in the following ways :

Lack of patriotism

That is verified with the refusal to take the flag. No matter the situation, that scenario shouldn’t arise. In the population, everyone wants to travel abroad (not saying it’s bad to travel, but if some conditions are fixed, the motif for traveling will be more objective).

“Do you know who i am”

There’s a tendency for people to portrait how important they are especially when they have conflicts in the nation. The “bigger” they appear to be, the more they frighten their opponent. We regularly see this in the team as others double-cross the authority of the other : from Team Captain (Eto’o) to FECAFOOT to Ministry of Sport to Prime Ministry to Presidency.

Wastage

We’ve noticed wastage of the country’s resources in the nation(like other African countries) as well as in this world cup. Think about the extra charges given to the air-transport company for the late arrival of the team (over 200 million F CFA), extra charges was certainly given out to the very large delegation that accompanied the team and also the not-so-necessary red card provoked by Alex Song  elbowing a player not having a ball etc.

lack of preparation and anticipation

The team did not prepare sufficiently for the event due to many factors like regularly switching coaches, wasting time with non-football issues like personal conflicts, players not living together meanwhile we had all reasons to prepare from poor performances at the former world cups. Will someone argue that the nation doesn’t anticipate things in most sectors of the society ?

waiting for conditions to deteriorate extremely before envisaging fixing

the team had issues since 5 or 6 years ago and all Cameroonians know about that. But why do we wait for things to go worst before reacting ?. We were temporally suspended by FIFA, we had sometime without a stable coach, we had other times when some players didn’t talk to each other and finally against CROATIA, we just spilled out football that doesn’t meet up to the standards of a world cup. Same scenario with our markets, town planning, hospitals, roads. I hope we learn to tackle problems earlier.

Old people with good speeches and appearances but no action

We have great players, probably one of the greatest of all times (the world knows Samuel Eto’o, Alex Song etc.) that do well in their clubs, but how come when in the national team it’s frequently football not-satisfactory accompanied by press conferences with good promises and speeches. Is that different from the political leaders ? : so intelligent, convincing speeches but then less job done. Let’s Learn people.

Lack of Organisation

Everyone saw team mates collided with the ball without talking to each other, just like unorganized schools, hospitals, government offices.

pay before service

Even though the players merited to have qualification pay check, the manner it was requested sounded like the frequent bribery scenarios we experience everyday in the society in the form of bribery: “pay before i render you such a service”. In this case, pay before i go to Brazil.

Not respecting delays

Hardly are development projects announced and realized in time in the country. The players arrived Brazil late

Not meeting up to the expectations of the population

people left their very important activities to say “goodbye” and “good luck” to those players from the team’s hotel to the airport (very long distance) because they had good expectations from the team; the whole country slept late on that encounter with CROATIA (meanwhile they have work the next day) still for the team to meet up with their expectations but nothing good came out that football. Lemme not talk about the very high expectations we have and are ready to support if we are ruled well as a nation.

I could keep citing the points, but the issue is not to bring down Cameroon. I wish we realize that we’re not portraying a good image outside. Since we have emerging goals, mentalities like Alex Song elbowing, or MoukandjoAssou Ekotto disagreement have to be tackled on an individual level, love for the nation too harnessed,  proper preparation for events etc in other to achieve our goals.

There’re lessons to learn here, Thank you.

Probable future school laws will include sanctions on internet actions

Good afternoon dear readers,

i haven’t made deep research but i just want to rapidly give out a thought that ran my mind.

With the Internet becoming a place where school pupils freely speak out their minds, the teachers they hate are targeted through this medium.

This has cost depression and discomfort for some teachers and subsequent insufficient engagement. Pupils are capable of mounting funny or provocative images of their teachers.

I rapidly thought to myself that probable future school laws will include declarations closer to those listed below:

  • “all students/pupils caught insulting a teacher online will be punished as follows…………………….”
  • “all student online accounts not submitted to the school authority for consultation  will be punished as follows…….”
  • “if a student is using a fake online account to bring down his teacher’s dignity, he be punished as follows…….”
  • “if any nickname used amongst students in online groups is targeting teachers, they’ll be  punished as follows…….”
  • etc..

Online interactions amongst pupil will definitely be regulated at the school level in varying degrees, in different countries. This is just evolution.

I almost lost all my phone contacts

Hello guys…

One morning  after having an awesome feeling to navigate through my android phone options and apply the highest possible security that i can configure,i landed on the “SIM lock” options and activated “Set up SIM and lock“. I was asked to fabricate a PIN number, my SIM was then locked.

Now to unlock this option, you’re not only asked to type back in your PIN number, but also, the PUK number.

You can read more about PUK here

Not having this in mind and not keeping it safely too somewhere; i exhausted the 10-times-trial i was given with wrong codes. This permanently blocked my SIM and after reaching the mobile operator (MTN), i just had to obtain a new SIM. This also empties your contacts directory and so the operator can’t restore your contacts back.

If something saved me taht day, it’s because the phone contacts were stored in the phone’s memory itself….oups ! (tears of joy).

If something is retained, it’s the fact that:

  •   You should keep ya PUK number in a safe place.
    Image

Sample MTN SIM card, containing PUK number

  • when you activate this security option without knowing your PUK number, go and complain to your mobile operator BEFORE you exhaust the 10-times-trial opportunity (in some cases, 3) to unblock the SIM. Before exhaustion, the SIM is not yet permanently  blocked;
  • Know very well the security option you want to implement;
  • Back Up your contacts in anyway you like. Android offers the option to back up your contacts into a file with extension “.vcf” and stores it into your SD card (Other phones have their techniques, find out about yours);
  • There’s this website that can retrieve your PUK number for you in case you forget (didn’t apply to my country’s mobile operator when i tried; might be for yours) : watch this youtube video for explanation.

#ecoLife

sometimes i get ideas from thinking; from reading and from my conscience about how to better my life (more comfortable, affordable and practical) and of course ecological. So when i get these ideas i tweet about them with hash tag #ecoLife :
i’ll just enumerate some of the ecological things i think most people should know, so we all advance towards a greener planet. Some points will be in French. Others will just be useful links. This enumeration will not follow any order :

  1. u can use same plastic(same bag) when u go to bakery (french=BOULANGERIE); instead of always parceling per new purchase #ecoLife
  2. ++ {While most plastics are touted as recyclable, the reality is that they’re “downcycled.” } <–so avoid as much as possible #ecoLife
  3. 16 simple ways to reduce plastic waste : http://t.co/3Z9eF01UCX
  4. consider donating old stuffs to a thrift store or similar organization. Your donations can make a big difference for someone else.
  5. Preventative maintenance helps extend the life of your belongings and it also limits the risk of a costly repair…
  6. Stop thinking that the only things you can use are the ones you own: expand into renting and borrowing. #ecoLife
  7. acquire handkerchiefs instead of tissues
  8. 11 ways to produce less garbage : http://t.co/k4pAe0s4Pc
  9. another powerful web tool to help you print just the essential text of a web page in order to economise paper usage (just paste ya URI) : http://t.co/Zw6GHv6NaT
  17. Share your car with other people
#ecoLife
  20.  ……………………..

The list can just keep on going….. Have a greener life dear friends 🙂

An algorithm to determine your processor performance

Good afternoon Guys (hot sun when i was writing these lines).
I was reading a programming book “Sams Teach Yourself Java in 24 Hours (Covering Java 7 and Android), 6th Edition” (without publicity, an amazing book to buy  🙂 and read B|  ) . Anyways, i fell on this algorithm that tests the performance(calculative) of a processor .
Seeming complex, but it’s as simple as thus : making the processor do a simple arithmetic calculation for a period (1 minute for this algorithm) and then counting the number of times(cycle) the processor does this calculation for the given period. Have a clue below :

caption of a netbeans code portion

caption of a netbeans code portion

– (line 5) “startTime” : a variable that get’s the current time in milliseconds
– (line 6) “endTime” : adds 60 000 milliseconds (1 minute) to the startTime
– (line 8 – 16) here is where the calculations takes place. The Mathematical operation used here is the square root (could be another).

so there’s this integer “index” (that arithmetically increments in line 14), for which we cyclically do the square root of , get the time of the square root calculation (in the variable “now” in line 10), until this time reaches one minute.

– (line 17) We display the number of loops the processor has done the square root.

The evaluation of the processor speed here is from the fact that a faster processor will do more loops in one minute than a less faster one. I used this to test 3 PCs that was around.

Here is the result of my “not-so-powerful-but-at-least-satisfactory-processor-speed” PC…. 😛 😛
